Rodrigo Bentancur and Uruguay continued their excellent World Cup campaign by beating host nation Russia 3-0 on Monday afternoon in Samara.
The Juventus midfielder played 63 minutes of the match in which Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani got on the scoresheet either side of Denis Cheryshev’s own goal.
The result ensured that Uruguay finished top of Group A with maximum points to book a meeting with Portugal in the round of 16 on Saturday 30 June in Sochi.
Later last night, Medhi Benatia’s Morocco finished their World Cup journey with a creditable 2-2 draw against Spain in Kaliningrad.
The Bianconeri defender was an unused substitute, as Morocco twice took the lead through Khalid Boutaib and Youssef En-Nesyri, with Isco and Iago Aspas both striking equalisers for La Roja, the latter scoring in 91st minute to seal top spot of Group B in the most dramatic of fashions.
Spain will take on Russia in the round of 16 on Sunday 1 July in Moscow.
