One story, one jersey.
Giorgio Chiellini is one of those players who truly embody the spirit of Juventus. As of yesterday, he officially entered into the special “Hall of Fame” of players to have reached 500 appearances in Bianconero.
It’s a small group, that he is now a part of, and outside of him there are only four other champions: Giuseppe Furino (528), Gaetano Scirea (552), Gianluigi Buffon (656) and Alessandro Del Piero (705). Chiello arrived at Juventus,in 2005, when he was still a youngster– a lifetime ago.
It's been a journey where he has entered into the hearts of everyone, through his characteristics that he demonstrates on and off the field: loyalty, a hunger to not give up, and a sense of belonging to the shirt. It’s a shirt of which, from this year, he also wears the captain’s symbol, inherited from Gianluigi Buffon, who was part of the “Magnificent Five”.
A warrior, a gladiator, and one of football’s strongest defenders in the game.
In these 500 games (321 wins, 108 draws), Giorgio has scored 35 goals (23 in Serie A), and, interestingly, Lazio is his favourite "victim", with five strikes to his name. Ironically, he has also played against Lazio and Napoli more times than any other team, a total of 27 times.
And then the trophies, those that have marked his and our recent history are: seven Scudetti, four Italian Cups, as well as the same number of Italian Super Cups, with the most recent coming two months ago in Jeddah.
One jersey and one fantastic story that will continue towards achieving new goals.
