Brazil kept their dreams of a Copa America success on home soil alive when they defeated Paraguay 4-3 on penalties. Alex Sandro wasn’t named in Tite’s starting XI but he did come on as a substitute.
After 90 minutes and extra time, the score was still level at 0-0, despite Paraguay having been reduced to 10 men following Fabian Balbuena’s sending off, and the game was forced into a penalty shoot-out.
Alex Sandro was brought into action straight after the interval, taking the place of Filipe Luis. William, Marquinhos, and Coutinho all converted their penalties, while Roberto Firmino missed from the spot. Gabriel Jesus stood up to take the decisive penalty, and he made no mistake in securing the victory for the Selecao.
Tonight, Paulo Dybala’s Argentina will be in action against Venezuela, kick-off at 21:00 CEST, while Cuadrado and Colombia will face Chile, kick-off at 01:00 CEST.
