Ahead of Wednesday night's last 2019/20 Champions League group stage match between Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus, the German side faced Schalke04 at home in the Bundesliga.
The hosts got off to a good start through Argentine, Lucas Alario's 15 minute strike before doubling their advantage late on, once more with Alario finding the net, in the 81st minute. Despite Schalke pulling a goal back just a minute later through Benito Raman, Leverkusen held on to draw level on points with their opponents in the league table to go up into 6th place on 25 points, leapfrogging Bayern Munich in 7th.
Borussia Monchengladbach still sit top of the Bundesliga on 31 points, one ahead of RB Leipzig in second 30 and third-placed Borussia Dortmund on 26.
