It was another strong and exciting campaign that unfolded at the feet of Rita Guarino’s ladies. In just their second year of existence, the Bianconere claimed the Scudetto title and swung aloft the Coppa Italia trophy.

Pride, memories, jubilation and celebration are just some of the words that can be used to describe the Women’s season, that was officially wrapped up on 28 April in Parma.

Here’s a look at five of the most important wins of the season:

After suffering a 3-0 defeat away to Milan a week before, the Bianconere knew that they needed to bounce back with a win. And so they did, and in fine fashion, too. Guarino’s charges stormed to a 5-0 victory over Pink Bari through a penalty kick from Galli, and goals from Bonansea, Caruso, Girelli and Gama all getting on the scoresheet. That victory also put them in good stead to defeat Fiorentina a week later in Tuscany.

Even if Juventus came into the game on top of the league standings, anything short of a win would put a dent in their title aspirations, especially if a defeat were to come against title contenders Milan. As 2000 fans poured into the Silvio Piola Stadium in Vercelli, nothing separated the two sides going into the break, but Barbara Bonansea wasn’t having any of it, and she responded in the second half with a brace to secure a crucial 2-0 victory.

What a special occasion this was (for more than one reason, too)! Juventus Women took to the field of the Allianz Stadium for the very first time in their history, and in front of a full house of 39 000 plus spectators – a milestone for women’s football in Italy. Above and beyond this, the Women knew that a win would bode well in placing them as favourites to win the league. And with emotions running high for both sets of players that day, the game looked destined to be settled by a minimal margin and that was, of course, the case. Sofie Pedersen’s strike in the 85th minute saw Juventus claim a 1-0 win and help move the Turin team to move four points clear on the log with four matches to go. A successful day and one to remember for many reasons.

Juventus came into the game with one objective in mind and that was to win. And win they did! In a dominant display in Verona, where they knew three points would certainly guarantee them a second league triumph, the visitors claimed a mighty 3-0 lead with goals from Ekroth, Girelli and Aluko. It was a second successive league triumph wrapped up on the final match day of the Serie A Femminile season, and what a victory it was!

Competitors throughout the season, it seemed only fitting that the two teams met in the Coppa Italia final in Parma. With the league having come to conclusion the week before, both teams were itching to bag home their second piece of silverware of the season: Juventus after their Scudetto victory the week prior, and Fiorentina after winning the Coppa Italia against Juventus earlier in the season. Still supercharged from their win in Verona, Guarino’s ladies came out guns blazing in the first half and found themselves up by two goals to the good through Ekroth and Cernoia. Bonetti pulled one back for the Viola in the second half, but Juventus held out strong and successfully avenged their Super Cup disappointment from October 2018.
