Matuidi: “We want to do something big”

It’s a big week for the Bianconeri. After Saturday’s match against Fiorentina, they will travel to Madrid on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League outing against Atletico Madrid. All eyes will be on the club as they look to secure their dream of winning the big-eared trophy. Blaise Matuidi is one player who knows just how important this competition is, but he isn’t underestimating the challenge that lies ahead.

The Frenchman covered an array of topics. Here’s what he had to say:

It is never easy against Fiorentina, we also came back from the international break, many of us travelled with their national teams. But we are not looking for excuses: we did not play our best match and we know it. We can do better, now we have to work to improve our condition. We do not look at the adversaries, but we think about our daily commitment, and to win the Scudetto match after match, adapting ourselves to the different situations that will arrive.

I have an excellent relationship with the staff and teammates, and I try to give my maximum contribution in order to achieve our goals, which is the most important thing.

We know the importance of the Champions League matches. We will go to Madrid looking for the result. We have a team that can-do great things, but playing at Atletico, which we know well, is never easy. We met them in a friendly in the summer, but it will be different: we know that Atletico is a very difficult team to deal with. There are many teams that can win the Champions League, and we are among them. Anything can happen, we want to do something big, facing each match in the competition one at a time.

On the subject of racism: we can and must improve; racism must be fought. We have the technologies to punish those and they do not have to stay in a football stadium, and not those who go to the stadium only to watch a sports show.
