Juventus were forced to cut their summer short in order to participate in the Intertoto Cup, which kicked off on 18 July 1999.
Tacchinardi’s goal helped the Bianconeri edge past Romanian side Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ in the first round and they then coasted into the final with a resounding 9-1 aggregate success over Rostelmasch.
The tournament final was also contested over two legs, the first of which saw Ancelotti’s men run out 2-0 winners in Cesena on 10 August. The trophy was then clinched soon after via a 2-2 stalemate during the second leg in Rennes.
