Scudetto 1957-58

After a series of trophyless years, Juventus returned to the pinnacle of Italian football in the 1957-58 season. During the summer transfer market, the young president Umberto Agnelli made his mark by completing two outstanding purchases, bringing in Welsh forward Charles and world class Italian-Argentinian Sivori. Charles was an instant hit with the fans as his powerful play, strong heading ability and intense work rate provided previously unseen qualities to the side.

The combination of Boniperti and the two summer arrivals carried Juventus through the season as they ran out winners by a convincing eight-point margin. The Bianconeri also found the back of the net on 77 occasions, 12 more than any other side in the league, and boasted two of the league’s top three goalscorers. Charles topped the list with 28, comfortably ahead of his nearest rival on 23, then Sivori’s 22 strikes earned him third place.
