Scudetto 1932-33

Following two consecutive title wins, Juventus could have just been satisfied with their current crop of champions. Instead, the Bianconeri looked to remain two steps ahead of the rest as they strengthened the ranks by welcoming midfielder Bertolini and winger Sernagiotto to the fold during the 1932 summer transfer market. However, the major reinforcement came from within as young striker Borel ‘Farfallino’ made the step up from the youth academy and then really got his chance to shine when Vecchina was struck by injury.

After an indifferent start, the Bianconeri gained ground on the leaders through Farfallino’s prolific goalscoring form. The 18-year-old found an important double against Lazio (4-0), a crucial winning goal in the derby (1-0) and a hat-trick against Triestina. The recovery was complete on 18 December when Juve regained their rightful place at the top of the table and didn’t look back from there. They successfully coasted to a third consecutive title as Borel maintained his impressive run in front of goal to end the season as the league’s leading scorer, having netted 29 times in 28 games. Juventus’ final tally was 54 points, eight ahead of Inter and 12 more than Bologna and Napoli.
