The Bianconeri wrapped up their stint in the International Champions Cup 2019 against Atletico by recording a 2-1 result that ended in favour of the Spain side at the Friends Arena in Stockholm. Joao Felix bagged a stunning brace, while Sami Khedira scored a goal in the first half.

Oblak made the first save of the game in the 11th minute, when Chiellini connected onto the end of a cross and directed it towards the near post, but the shot-stopper pushed it out for a corner. Douglas Costa then dribbled the ball around the box, before laying it off for Cristiano Ronaldo, who struck it on first glance and it went out for a corner kick.

ATLETICO TAKE THE LEAD

Juventus were let off the hook in the 21st minute, when Atletico Madrid came agonizingly close to scoring when the opposition struck an attempt at goal, that saw Alex Sandro make a last-second clearance off the line. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop Simeone’s side from taking the lead just moments later, when Joao Felix struck a brilliant volley that sailed passed Szczesny in goal.

KHEDIRA RESPONDS & SO DOES JOAO FELIX

Sami Khedira found the equalizer in the 28th minute, when some poor defending by Atletico saw the ball fall to his feet. He then struck a low effort, which sailed straight into the back of the net. Joao Felix and his teammates were constantly exploiting space in the Bianconeri backline, when he ran on to a ball from over the top and volleyed it straight into the back of the net, just five minutes later.

GOALLESS SECOND HALF

Douglas Costa started the second half just like his first half display: on fire. He immediately threatened the opposing shot-stopper with an effort that smacked the upright. The Bianconeri were again denied by the woodwork in the 58th minute, when Adrien Rabiot struck a powerful effort from outside the box. Oblak got a hand to it and turned it onto the post to keep the score at 2-1.

Between the 59th and the 70th minute, Maurizio Sarri opted to change up the whole team. Both teams tried their luck in front of goal, with Oblak being tested once again, but, unfortunately, Juventus couldn’t find the equalizing goal.
