Fiorentina v Juventus is a fixture which has always thrown up intriguing duels, and often it’s the players who have starred for both sides who light up these games. Roberto Baggio is the best-known and most exciting out of all of the footballers to have featured for the Viola and the Bianconeri. Let’s take a look at some other match-ups from both teams over the years.

CUADRADO V CHIESA

Juan Cuadrado and Federico Chiesa have produced magic on the wings of both teams over the years, playing with talent and tenacity as well as chipping in with goals. Juan spent two and a half seasons in Florence before heading to Juve via Chelsea. Chiesa came through the ranks at Fiorentina, making 150 appearances, before joining Juventus in 2020.

Two who players faced off in this fixture would go on to be team-mates at Juventus briefly in the 2014/15 campaign. There’s little to say that hasn’t already been said about Claudio Marchisio and the bond he had with his boyhood club, other than to mention that his first Serie A goal came against the Viola, in Turin. As for Brazilian full back Romulo, Fiorentina was the first of six Italian teams he played for in his career.

THURAM V TONI

Luca Toni against Lilian Thuram was quite the battle in one of the most thrilling Fiorentina v Juventus games, which came in the 2005/06 season. The Bianconeri claimed a last-minute win thanks to a goal by Mauro Camoranesi. Toni – who would go on to move to Juve – and Thuram met a few months later in the World Cup final. Just as in the clash in Florence, Toni’s header bounced off the crossbar in Berlin.

Daniel Fonseca and Moreno Torricelli pitted their wits against each other back in 1998/99. The defender came out on top in a 1-0 win, in his first appearance against his former side. Meanwhile, the Uruguayan striker was sent on by Marcelo Lippi in the latter stages of the game but he failed to cancel out Gabriel Batistuta’s earlier strike.

LUPPI V KUBIK

Luppi spent two seasons in Turin before heading to Florence, while Kubik was at the Viola between 1989 and 1991.
