Juventus Women’s outing in France got off to a great start after beating Montpellier 2-1 on Wednesday evening courtesy of two goals from Crisiana Girelli in the first half.

The fixture was the first of two friendlies whilst on the road in Europe, and after having come into game off the back of two wins already, Joe Montemurro’s side were buoyed with confidence.

The Bianconere wasted no time in threatening their French opposition: Boattin played a great ball for Staskova, whose shot was saved with 10 minutes on the clock. A minute later, and Girelli found the back of the net after she fired home Lundorf’s cross to make it 1-0. Juventus were in good control of the game, and they went two goals clear when Girelli made no mistake upon going one-on-one with the goalkeeper just 25 minutes into the game. The hosts managed to pull a goal back 10 minutes from the break, following Elsig’s header.

Into the second half, and Montpellier started to control the flow of the game better, creating more chances too. Montemurro opted to bring on Hyyrynen, Lenzini and Aprile, while Cernoia had her effort parried away. Zamanian saw her shot sail just high of the target, as Mondesir gave Juventus a scare with her effort that sailed just high of the target. The final moments of the game were intense, as Caiazzo was shown a red card for a late challenge on Mondesir. Despite this, the game came to a conclusion in favour of the Bianconere.
