Juventus Women built on their recent Champions League victories by defeating Pomigliano 3-0 on the opening day of Serie A.

Martina Rosucci notched the opener, Arianna Caruso added another two in the second half and the Bianconere might well have had more but visiting goalkeeper Sara Cetinja succeeded in limiting the damage.

There were Serie A debuts for Pauline Peyraud-Magnin and Amanda Nilden and a second league debut for the returning Martina Lenzini.

Cecilia Salvai and Matilde Lundorf completed the backline with Rosucci, Caruso and Valentina Cernoia in midfield and a front three of Cristiana Girelli, Barbara Bonansea and Lina Hurtig.

The game began as they so often do at Vinovo, with Juve trying to impose themselves from the off and the visitors looking to defend and play on the counter.

Girelli thought she had broken the deadlock after just five minutes but it was ruled out for offside.

It only took another three minutes though and Juve did score the opener, Rosucci getting the all-important touch to claim the Bianconere's first Serie A goal of the season.

It didn't alter the course of game as Joe Montemurro's side continued to look like scoring every time they went on the attack.

Pomigliano had a good chance to level matters in the 25th minute when Liucija Vaitukaityte met Vanessa Panzeri's cross, forcing Peyraud-Magnin into her first intervention of note.

Juve set about doubling their advantage with renewed determination and Girelli was denied first by a superb Cetinja save, and then by Danielle Cox sliding in to block her shot. And so it remained 1-0 at the break.

Juve emerged from the dressing rooms even more intent to put the game to bed and the second goal duly came ten minutes after the restart. A well-worked move ended with Hurtig picking out Caruso in space at the back post and the midfielder headed home to make it three seasons running that she has scored in the opening game.

The second goal seemed to kill off Pomigliano's resistance and Juve had repeated opportunities to add a third, first through Hurtig, then Andrea Staskova and Cernoia.

In the end it was Caruso who got it, with six minutes left on the clock. Lisa Boattin hit the bar and the No.21 was the quickest to react to turn home her second of the night.

So the Bianconere made it three goals and three points from their first league fixture – the perfect start and ideal preparation for their next UWCL encounter: on 1 September they visit Vllaznia in Albania.

POST-MATCH REACTION

Joe Montemurro: “It went well today. What I found especially pleasing was the number of good moves we put together, even though we weren't always able to finish them off. “At one point we dropped off a bit too much, perhaps wary of what happened in our friendly game, but we got it together again afterwards. Credit to Pomigliano for their performance today. I think they will have a great season.”

Arianna Caruso: “It's nice to score but us winning is all that really matters. We have to keep working away because we can get better. The attitude we showed today is the attitude we need to maintain all season long.”
