Giuseppe Marotta, in attendance at the unveiling of Alessandro Del Piero's new “Assist” exhibition, took the opportunity to reflect on Juventus’ Champions League draw with Sevilla today, a result that does little to derail the team’s European ambitions this season.
The key quotes from the Club CEO, discussing Wednesday’s match at the event held at Del Piero’s ADPlog gallery in Turin, are as follows:
“The match against Sevilla was proof that we have a refreshed squad with plenty of quality. We knew we would be facing a tough side and that every game of the Champions League has the potential to test you but overall our performance was positive and a confirmation of our faith in the group we’ve assembled.
“We’re confident in our own abilities and we believe we are at the required level to reach the high standards we’ve set for ourselves in every competition; we’ve become one of the teams to beat in the Champions League and that’s something that we should be proud of.
“Being one of the frontrunners in Europe naturally sets you up for a greater fall and more criticism as well as forcing other teams to approach matches against you with a different mindset but we musn’t worry about living up to that status and instead relish the challenges it brings.”
