Lorenzo Insigne's first-half penalty ended up settling the encounter as Napoli ran out 1-0 winners at the Stadio Maradona. The Bianconeri threw everything at the hosts after the break but a combination of wayward finishing and careful defending denied them an equaliser.
This is what Andrea Pirlo had to say after the final whistle.
“I don't think they had a shot on goal and ultimately we lost for what was a dubious penalty call.
“In the first half we didn't move the ball around quickly enough and they were able to get back into position but that was the only problem. In the second half we showed more initiative and were just missing a goal.
"When you're playing so many games you lose a bit of sharpness but they all played well today. Their goalkeeper was the best player out there and I have no complaints about my forwards.
“The defeats are damaging as we could find ourselves 10 points off the top tonight but we have to keep performing well and see where we are in March.”
