This evening at 6pm, Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu will play host to a historic match-up that sees legends from Juventus and Real Madrid lock horns for the first time in the ‘Corazon Classic Match 2013 Veracruz’.
On Friday 7 June, a highly respected group of footballing stars gathered in Turin as Andrea Agnelli unveiled the ‘Juventus Legends’ project. The initiative gives the club’s past champions a chance to take part in the noble cause of becoming official brand ambassadors for Juventus all over the world.
Twenty of the Bianconeri legends have been named in the squad that will do battle with their Spanish counterparts later on today in front of a packed house at one of football’s greatest arenas, the Santiago Bernabeu. Fans could not have wished for a more glamorous introduction to the project.
The theme of the evening will be ‘Solidarity with Childhood’ and the proceeds will go to the Spanish Red Cross programme ‘Exito Escolar’ (Promotion of School Success), which is an initiative designed to provide study grants to children who would not otherwise be able to afford adequate education.
A whole host of former world beaters will take to the field for both teams: Edgar Davids, Pavel Nedved and Paolo Montero for Juventus; Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo for Real Madrid. Having played three seasons at each club, Fabio Cannavaro will swap shirts at half-time and play 45 minutes for either side.
Gianluca Pessotto has been assigned the task of organising and maximising the potential of his star studded squad as he is set to direct proceedings from the sidelines for the Juventus legends.
The evening is set to offer a great spectacle of football and the Madrid public have responded to this momentous occasion with extraordinary enthusiasm, having already purchased 70,000 tickets.
