The Bianconeri’s recent 31st Scudetto triumph was heralded by mayor Piero Fassino and chairman of the city council Giovanni Maria Ferraris during a special reception held this morning at Turin’s city hall. Expressing his delight at the club’s achievement, Fassino began: “Thank you on behalf of the city of Turin. Your success is firstly down to the team, which has dedicated passion, sacrifice and professionalism, but also down to the city itself. The worldwide image of Turin is represented by Juventus. “We’re happy with your result, which consolidates the record of league titles won in Italy, consolidates your supremacy in Italian football and also consolidates the hope that other successes will follow, starting with the Champions League.” Club president Andrea Agnelli continued: “I have a strong affinity with this city. When we play in Europe and people talk about Juventus, we’re referred to as Juventus Turin, because the name of our team is automatically linked to the city.” After extending a warm welcome to those representing the Bianconeri, Fassino and Ferraris handed a celebratory plaque to Agnelli before inviting the players and backroom staff up individually to accept their medals. In exchange, Antonio Conte and Gigi Buffon presented Fassino with a Juventus shirt featuring the number two, representing the amount of Scudetto titles lifted since the mayor assumed office.
