Massimiliano Allegri says his men will be taking each Champions League game as it comes in their bid to reach the competition’s knockout stages for a second successive year.

Manchester City’s late win over Sevilla and a resurgent Gladbach means there’s still all to play for in the three group stage fixtures that remain, and the Bianconeri boss is under no illusions regarding the tough tests that lie in wait.

Speaking to the media in Germany, he began: “When you participate in the Champions League the big aim is always to reach the last hurdle. Now we’ll take things one step at a time, focusing on our current goal of reaching the knockout stages, which is no easy task given that there are still three games remaining.”

Standing in the way of the group leaders and three crucial points tomorrow night are a Borussia Monchengladbach side in red-hot form.

According to Allegri, the key to stopping the Foals in front of a sell-out Borussia-Park crowd will be a composed approach when in possession and defensive diligence on the break.

“Borussia have won six league matches on the bounce, one in the domestic cup and they drew against us. Tomorrow we’ll need to be on our game from a technical standpoint and deny them space in which to hit us on the counter.

“Football’s a simple game: you need to play well, make as few errors as possible and look to get the best out of those who cross the white line.”
