As Mario Lemina, Juventus’ deadline day signing from Olympique Marseille, stands on the brink of a new adventure in Italy, the young midfielder has his eyes firmly fixed on success and reaching the top of his game.

Speaking to journalists gathered at Juventus Stadium this afternoon, Lemina believes that to achieve these goals, Juventus was the only logical choice.

He began: “Juventus are a massive club with a tradition of winning so when I heard of their interest my mind was already made up. This is a club that I’ve admired since I was young so I’m delighted to be here.”

Tall, strong, athletic and capable of operating in a variety of roles in midfield, Lemina was confident that his versatility and tactical experience, developed under the tutelage of “special” former Marseille boss Marcelo Bielsa, will make him an important player for the Old Lady.

“I’m as comfortable going forward as I am tracking back. For that, I owe thanks to my old coach Marcelo Bielsa. I played in a back three for Marseille on occasions, so for the benefit of the team I can slot in anywhere.

“My preferred position is in the centre of the field where I can dictate play and influence the game but I know that it’s up to me to force my way into contention. My ambition is to play and develop my game as much as I can.”

Juventus’ new number 18, an admirer of Pavel Nedved, “a truly great Juventus player who always played with his heart, a style that I look to emulate myself,” undoubtedly has a similar determination and drive to succeed in Turin, characteristics that will stand him in good stead for the latest chapter in his career.
