Fabio Grosso’s Primavera extended their lead at the top of the table to four points with this afternoon’s victory over fellow high-fliers Virtus Entella, who were dispatched thanks to strikes from Pol Lirola and Francesco Cassata.
It took the Bianconeri just seven minutes to break the deadlock in a rip-roaring start to proceedings, Lirola drilling a fine shot that nestled to perfection inside the near post.
The early lead yielded a fierce reaction from the visitors, who equalised just four minutes later through Riccardo Moreo’s cheeky backheel that beat Emil Audero at his near post.
Undeterred, the Bianconeri raised their game and grabbed what proved to be the eventual matchwinner thanks to Cassata’s strike from the edge of the box, a sublime effort that left the Entella goalkeeper with no chance.
Speaking after the game, coach Grosso said: “Credit to our opponents. They played well and never gave up. We’re delighted with the result and possess a group full of quality.”
