As Juventus opened their Champions League campaign with a 0-0 draw, Giorgio Chiellini and company were left thinking what might have been, given the way they were unable to convert a dominant display on Wednesday night against Sevilla into three points.
“We created a number of chances in the first half,” Chiellini opened. “We managed to regain possession high up the field and also find space in the final third. It’s just a pity that we were unable to score before the break.”
While satisfied by keeping a clean sheet on the evening, the defender urged his team-mates to raise their game, especially in terms of providing that killer ball to the men up front.
“A positive from tonight’s performance is that we were very compact and well-organised, we didn’t concede a single shot on target and these are precisely the kind of things that a great side needs to show when looking to go far in Europe.
“Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that we need to help our forwards out better, giving them greater opportunities to score, even if our efforts on goal were not exactly lacking and we were just whiskers away from finding the net.”
