Gianluigi Buffon says Juventus need to use their first-leg fightback against Bayern Munich as inspiration when they run out at the Allianz Arena for tomorrow night’s Champions League last 16 second leg clash against the Bundesliga champions.

The Bianconeri skipper acknowledges the Bavarians have the edge when it comes to experience on the big stage but believes his team-mates can once again draw on their inner strength to produce an important result in testing circumstances.

Speaking to the media in Germany, Buffon began: “Bayern are the better team, their achievements over the last five years prove that, but we’ll see who has the upper hand tomorrow night.

“They were better than us for an hour in Turin, then something changed and we managed to overturn what appeared a desperate situation. Few would have managed that and it’s important we pick up from where we left off in the first leg.”

Key to keeping Bayern at bay on home turf will be the resilience of the Bianconeri rearguard, a defensive unit that has proved its ability to hold its own with the elite of Europe.

The goalkeeper added: “It’s hard to keep clean sheets in the Champions League because the level is that high, but our defence is truly solid. I think we’ve conceded fewer than the other teams in Europe in the last year.”
