Medhi Benatia recognised that Juve were slow out of the blocks against Udinese on Saturday but insists the real Juventus came through in the end.

“We started off on the wrong foot today, although we should also say that Udinese were really up for it,” the 29-year-old observed after helping to secure a hard-fought victory against his former club.

“We reacted well [to falling behind], got ourselves back in the game and eventually came away with the three points."

A seventh win from eight games sees Juve open up a five-point gap at the top of the table, but the seasoned centre-back knows it means little at this early stage of the campaign.

“Serie A is a tough league and our rivals can soon catch up with us if we let our guard drop. I don't fear any team, though. We just have to keep focusing on ourselves and keep playing like Juve every single Sunday.

“I don't look at how many points we've got. We have to win every match. We're capable of doing that and that's what we aim for. We must keep pushing on.”

Benatia also offered his take on Juve's tactical set-up.

“We play a possession game and try to win the ball back quickly when we lose it. We like to take the game to our opponents.

“Obviously you have to switch approach when you find yourself on the back foot but generally I think you're best off defending with a high line.”
