Juventus’ Primavera got their New Year off to the perfect start on Sunday by cruising to a comfortable 3-0 win over Genoa in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

It was against the Rossoblu that Fabio Grosso’s young guns rounded off 2015 with a 2-0 home victory, and they went one better this time around in Liguria thanks to a brace from Andrea Favilli and Luca Clemenza’s late strike.

After a closely competed opening to the encounter, Favilli broke the deadlock after 18 minutes and, from that point on, the Bianconeri were always in control.

Clemenza and Grigoris Kastanos had both come close to doubling their side’s lead before half-time, but just four minutes after the interval the advantage fell firmly with the visitors when Favilli latched on to Claudio Zappa’s cross before beating Grifone keeper Daniele Sommariva for a second time in the match.

And the striker’s work would not end there, as he set up Clemenza for Juve’s third goal with 15 minutes remaining to put their progress to the competition’s semi-finals beyond all doubt.

Fiorentina lie in wait in the next round, but, before that, Grosso’s charges turn their attentions back to the league and a trip to Modena in a week’s time.

2016 also started in positive fashion for the U15s, who overcame Savona 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in Vinovo. Alessandro Vergnano gave Davide Cei’s young guns the lead on the half-hour mark to bring up his seventh strike of the campaign before Luca Marchisone registered his eighth with an audacious lob in the second period.

There was no such joy, however, for the U17s, who fell 2-1 at Sassuolo after conceding two goals in the space of just a few minutes after half-time. Gianmarco Scapin pulled one back for Felice Tufano’s team late on, but they were ultimately unable to take anything away from the encounter and remain on 30 points for the campaign.
