Juventus Football Club announces that Mattia De Sciglio has signed a five-year contract with the Bianconeri after completing his move from Milan.

In signing the 24-year-old Italy defender, Juventus are adding a player with versatility, skill and an international pedigree to Massimiliano Allegri’s squad.

QUICK OUT OF THE BLOCKS

A product of the AC Milan academy, at just 18 years old De Sciglio was handed his first-team debut in a UEFA Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen by then-Rossoneri coach Allegri. He would also make his starting debut against the same club later that year in the group stage.

De Sciglio would play a few Serie A matches late in the 2011/2012 campaign, but it was in the 2012/2013 season that his star began to really take off. Still a teenager for part of the year, De Siglio played 33 matches in all competitions for the Rossoneri, cementing his place in the starting line-up at the San Siro.

De Sciglio has been a consistent performer in recent times, making nearly 60 appearances across all competitions over the last two seasons.

AT HIS BEST WITH GLI AZZURRI

On 21 March 2013, at just 20 years old, De Sciglio was handed his full Italian national team debut by Cesare Prandelli in a friendly against Brazil. He truly announced his arrival with gli Azzurri in the 2013 Confederations Cup playing every minute of the group stage as Italy advanced to the semi-finals before falling to Spain on penalty kicks.

De Sciglio was a member of the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad playing 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to Uruguay. He was a mainstay in the EURO 2016 squad as well, appearing in three out of four matches including 120 minutes in the penalty shootout defeat to Germany in the quarter-finals.

The Milan-born player has started four out of Italy’s six World Cup qualifiers as Italy currently sit tied at the top of their group with Spain looking to qualify for Russia 2018. In all, he has tallied 31 appearances for his country, a number that is sure to rise.

GETTING TO KNOW DE SCIGLIO

Juventini will certainly be very familiar with the former Milan defender having faced him a number of times down the years. De Sciglio will look to establish himself in Allegri’s side.

A natural right-back, the 24-year-old also brings versatility to the squad as he is able to pitch in at multiple positions. For his country, De Sciglio has played left-back, right-back, and on both sides of midfield, allowing for maximum flexibility with whichever formation Allegri opts to field.

Welcome to the Juventus family, Mattia!
