Sturaro: “It’ll be different in Shanghai”

Following Juventus’ 2-0 reverse in Marseille, Stefano Sturaro says he is sure the Bianconeri will face a different situation in Shanghai next Saturday when they take on Lazio in the Super Cup final.

Speaking after playing 64 minutes of the Old Lady’s third pre-season friendly, Sturaro said: “This week we’ll dust ourselves down and work towards reaching peak condition ahead of our first official match of the season, which I’m sure will be a very different game.”

The 22-year-old was a first-half replacement for the injured Sami Khedira before Stephan Lichsteiner’s red card on half-time left Juventus facing an uphill battle against Marcelo Bielsa’s men, who had played two more matches than their visitors prior to tonight’s contest.

“We did well for the first 20 minutes before Sami’s injury and Stephan’s dismissal. Playing with only 10 men changed the course of the match. We had to dig deep against a team that’s ahead of us in their pre-season preparations.”

Sturaro concluded by emphasising that results are not everything in these pre-season friendlies and underlined the need to take the positives from the summer workouts.

“With a bit of added luck, it could have been a different match. But these are friendly matches and we need to learn from them so we’re better prepared for our competitive fixtures.”
