For the fourth consecutive season, Roberto D’Aversa will oversee the bench of Parma. He is a coach who, whilst on the Gialloblu bench, has achieved impressive results: two consecutive promotions – from Serie C to Serie A – and he kept the club in the top-flight last season (14th place with 41 points).

THE NEW ARRIVALS

The squad, to date, has not changed much compared to last season. In midfield, the Brazilian Hernani (No. 10) arrived from Zenit St. Petersburg, and from Pescara, the Uruguayan Gaston Brugman also joined the fray. These players are able to give further quality to a department, that in the last year, brought a fair amount of goals and imagination. In attack, they welcomed the new face of the young Frenchman, Yann Karamoh, who joins on-loan from Inter. He will be ideal to play as an offensive player in the dynamic 4-3-3 of D’Aversa. The Danish Andreas Cornelius arrived on loan from Atalanta, along with the young Swedish midfielder Dejan Kulusevski. In defence, the new entries are the Albanian Kastriot Dermaku (ex-Cosenza) and the French Vincent Laurini (Fiorentina).

THE PILLARS OF THE TEAM

Parma can boast of highly experienced players, who have played a fundamental role in the salvation achieved in staying in Serie A last season. Among these, is the 37-year-old Portuguese Bruno Alves, captain of the Gialloblù, who scored four times last season. The two strikers of the team are Gervinho and Roberto Inglese, who, together, found the back of the net on 20 occasions in 2018/2019 season: the Ivorian scored 11 while there nine was scored by the former Napoli striker. Their combination could have been more lethal, if it wasn’t for both enduring physical problems at different intervals in the season. In midfield, the name worth noting is that of the Slovak Juraj Kucka, who arrived in January 2019 from Trabzonspor, who is capable of breaking up attacks and creating his own.

SUMMER FIXTURES

Last Saturday, Bruno Alves and his teammates played their first official match, where they claimed a 3-1 win over Venezia in the third round of the Italian Cup at Tardini Stadium: Gervinho with a goal and Iacoponi scored twice. Previously, they maintained an alternate performance in the friendlies played. In the first outing against a professional team,f ollowing three matches against local clubs which were easily won, they recorded a 2-2 draw against the Turks of Trabzonspor (two goals from Gervinho), they then lost 2-0 against Burnley, before claiming a 2-1 win against the Sampdoria.
